President, Navy Veteran
Lyn Small grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington DC and graduated high school from Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock VA. Following high school Lyn enlisted in the US Navy, served for 6 years and was honorably discharged in 1970. A year after enlisting, Lyn married and within 3 years had two sons. While on active duty, he attained the rate of Interior Communication 2nd Class and qualified as Reactor Operator and Reactor Technician while serving on the USS Enterprise. From 1970 to 1975 Lyn was employed by C&P Telephone Co and simultaneously began attending classes at Montgomery College in Takoma Park MD, receiving a degree in Engineering. In 1978 began working in the Lab in the Physics & Astronomy Department at the University of Maryland. In 1983 Lyn moved his family to Dare County, NC, and in 1984 began a partnership in the marine construction field. Seven years later in 1991, Lyn began his own marine construction company, Lyn Small, Inc; which has become known as L.S.I. Marine Construction.
Safety Director, Barge Crew Leader, Project Manager
Donny came to work with his father in 1996 after working as a land surveyor for six years. He is a key designer in the company, creating drawings for projects from decks to large marinas. He is also our lead Barge operator. For over ten years, Donny has trained new team members and maintained our two barges, including his expertise in creating our newest barge, which is expected this Spring. He loves his family and lives in Shiloh with his girlfriend, Kendra, and dachshund, “T”.
Gena is a graduate of East Carolina University and a student of their MBA program. She began consulting for L.S.I. through the Small Business Technology and Development Center before being recruited by Lyn in 2016.
Gena has 15+ years of business ownership and consulting. She is a hard worker with a “No Spin” approach to business and leadership. Her role is to oversee all project management, material orders, scheduling of equipment usage, negotiating contracts, human resource management, handle pricing, cash flow projections, income statements and financial records.
Together with her husband, son and two four legged boys, they live in Currituck. She is an avid German Shepherd lover but loves all furry friends – snakes ..not so much. She is active in our community including serving the Lower Currituck Fire Auxiliary, Board Member of her church, prior Board Member of the Currituck Chamber of Commerce.
Customer Service Representative
Kendra moved to the area in 2002 and felt instantly at home living the country life with the perks of the open water close by. She started her journey with Lyn Small Inc. 2 years ago and has been instrumental in the continuing success of the company. She will answer your initial call as well as keep you updated on the status of your project. In her free time she enjoys tending to her garden and spoiling her chickens. She lives in Camden with her son and chickens.
ASE Mechanic, Fabricator
Coming from the mountains of North Carolina, Tom has worked as an ASE certified mechanic and fabricator for most of his career. He worked in the concrete and construction industries as a welder and diesel technician for both Boone Ready Mix, and Kidder Construction Inc. until he started his own repair business,Tom's Auto Service, in 2012. After moving to the Outer Banks area, he joined the team at Lyn Small Inc, in September 2017. He lives in Powells Point with his wife and three children.
Boat Lift Supervisor, Sales
Originally from the Tampa Bay area of Florida, has lived in Shiloh, NC (Camden County) since 2002. 10+ years’ experience in the boat lift industry; was the National Sales Manager for Hi-Tide Boat Lifts. Extensive Sales/Customer Service experience; was the General Manager for Outer banks Harley Davidson, a Finance Manager for Hall Automotive as well as a Sales Manager for Eco-lab. Toney loves to fish, play golf, is an avid Volleyball player, and spends a tremendous amount of his free time as a volunteer at his amazing church, Forest Park Church, Elizabeth City.
